In response to Scarborough Art Gallery's exhibition, Celebrating Ceramics, (an exhibition in three parts being held at York Art Gallery, Wakefield Art Gallery and Scarborough Art Gallery showing York Art Gallery's collection of 20th Century Studio Ceramics), Crescent Arts is hosting a selected contemporary exhibition of new work by recent graduates and established makers. This exhibition includes an exciting range of sculptural forms, vessels and wall mounted pieces.

The exhibition displays current design styles while referring to the history, origins and beauty of clay itself. Influences range from the Arts & Crafts movement to that of architecture both contemporary and historic, the landscape and industrial decline.

Celebrating Ceramics at Scarborough Art Gallery
24th September 2005 to 8th January 2006
11 am to 4 pm Tuesday to Sunday

The works of twentieth century studio potters Leach, Hamada and Murray are celebrated at Scarborough Art Gallery. These pots are works of art for the home, displayed on surreal mantelpieces, alongside 20th century paintings and prints from the Gallery’s collection. A beautiful Victorian townhouse, Scarborough Art Gallery provides the perfect setting for this part of the exhibition, which is about decoration and domesticity.
