Karen T: AA2A ‘Plus’ & Craft Council Accessions

Karen Thompson has been busy this autumn! She was recently awarded an AA2A ‘Plus’ placement with York Art Gallery and York College . Karen will make work in response to York Museums Trust’s ceramic collection over the coming months.

In November the artist visited the top secret York Museums Trust’s stores, searching for works to respond to.

An intriguing work from the collection.

This was an exciting experience – Karen got a ‘behind-the-scenes’ glimpse of works that are due to be displayed once York Art Gallery re-opens in 2015. She will be running workshops as part of this placement in the new year.

This news is wonderful for Karen – being part of the pilot AA2A ‘Plus’ during York Art Gallery’s re-opening year will bring increased attention from the museum sector to her work.

Karen’s ceramic tureen heads, currently on display within the Winter Exhibition at the Biscuit Factory in Newcastle. Perfect Christmas gifts!

Additionally, Karen just found out that two pieces of her work, one being a Gove bust, have been accessioned into Craft Council’s collection. Her sandwich, created as part of York Curiouser, has been placed into CC’s Handling Collection.

We look forward to following Karen’s progress over the coming months. See below for links relating to her recent ceramic activities!
