Crescent Arts’ latest exhibition explores the contemporary practice of portraiture. How are artists today going about the business of capturing a likeness? Or is capturing a likeness no longer seen as necessary in order to reveal the inner thoughts of the sitter?

The exhibition aims to show how different artists working today in the field of portraiture are tackling this issue. The exhibition will feature a wide range of styles and techniques.
From the photo realistic paintings of Edward Clarke who captures
every line, wrinkle and blemish of his sitters faces – giving his paintings
an intense presence of the subject.
Margaret Field has taken photographs of herself with a mop on her head, in a playful investigation of motherhood and domestic identity.

Betty Lane sculpts directly into clay producing life-like busts of her models.

For anyone wishing to be captured on canvas or in clay most of the artists
exhibiting are available for commission.
