Linoprinting at Crescent Arts

Sunday 23 June, 10.00am – 4.00pm
Members £30 / non-members £40
Artist/tutor: Susan Slann

Linocut is a form of relief printing and a variant of woodcut. The image is drawn on a piece of lino and areas are then cut away with gouges, leaving the raised image to be inked. This workshop will give you the basic knowledge to develop your work and to print at home without an expensive press.

Safe Etching
Sunday 7 July, 10.00am – 4.00pm
Artist/tutor Dawn Brooks
Members £30 / non-members £40

An introduction to etching using non-toxic materials. With safe etching materials, participants will produce a series of prints over the day. Hard ground is drawn through with a needle, giving a pen like quality, while a soft ground line has the character of soft pencil or crayon. Textures can be imprinted with materials such as lace, gauze or dry foliage. Materials are provided, including your first printing plate (additional copper or zinc plates are available for purchase at cost price). Suitable for beginners and those wishing to improve their skills. Bring a sketchbook for ideas!

Sunday 14 July, 10.00am – 4.00pm

Justin will introduce you to the colourful medium of screenprinting using various stencil processes, including photographic stencils, to produce multi-colour prints and developing an image working from your original material. You will learn the basics of screenprinting with an opportunity to explore the versatility of the medium. All are welcome, from beginners to those with some experience. Bring photographs or sketches to work from (print or digital).

Transformer: the art of assemblage
Saturday 20 July, 10.00am – 4.00pm
Artist/tutor Claire
Members £30 / non-members £40

Assemblage crosses the boundaries of collage and sculpture using ‘found’ objects and materials. The surrealists made extensive use of this approach so if this appeals to you, let your imagination run riot and transform everyday materials to create surprising and poetic visual associations. Some materials are provided but do bring your own collection –  including photographs, memorabilia and anything else that has personal associations for you.

Saturday 27 July, 10.00am – 4.00pm
Artist/tutor Janet White
Members £30 / non-members £40

The cyanotype process dates back to the birth of photography and on this workshop you will learn how to make your own stunning deep blue prints. Cyanotypes are made through exposure to light and we’ll use both daylight and our special UV exposure equipment. No special technical skills are needed and the workshop is open to all abilities. We’ll start with a foraging walk in and around Valley Gardens to collect objects and materials to create designs for the cyanotype process back in the studio.
