Ceramic Christmas Decorations, Charlotte salt, 2019

Make your own ceramic Christmas decorations or small gifts, rolling clay to cut decorations or modelling into the desired form. We’ll provide cookie cutters to cut out shapes, and a variety of things to press into soft clay to create surface texture. Feel free to bring cookie cutters, templates or textures to use. Decoration with water-based under-glaze, painted onto the surface of the clay, can be added before it is fired. Please note that finished decorations will need to be left to dry in our studio before bisque firing. This process takes about a week, after which you can collect your decorations. Materials are included but bring an apron, sketches and ideas!

Photo Transfer Etching
Sunday 17 November, 10.00am – 4.00pm
Artist/tutor Dawn Brooks
Members £35 / non-members £45

This technique involves transferring a toner-printed image onto a metal plate to act as a resist in the etching process. The image is transferred onto the plate using Gum Arabic and lavender oil opposed to the traditional harmful chemicals. Drawn marks can be added to the photo image to add detail and texture.Bring a few photographic images (print or digital) to work from.

Transformer: the art of assemblage
Saturday 23 November, 10.00am – 4.00pm
Artist/tutor Claire
Members £35 / non-members £45

Assemblage crosses the boundaries of collage and sculpture using ‘found’ objects and materials. Let your imagination run riot and bring together everyday materials (or more unusual items) to create surprising and poetic visual associations. The surrealists made extensive use of this approach and we’ll take a look at some examples of their work. Some materials are provided but do bring your own collection – including photographs, memorabilia and anything else with personal associations.

Assemblage, Claire, 2019
