Eco-dyeing: how to extract pigments from plants!

Read more about our eco-dying workshop with artist Jade Blood and the Blueberry Students.

Our workshop with the Blueberry Academy students started with tending the gardens, drawing where we thought we could plant things, and thinking about spacing and companion planting.

We foraged through the local Woodend gardens, picking plants with bright colours, interesting shapes and textures, which we then used to wrap into the cloth we were going to dye with.

By using spices and plants like tumeric and dried rose, we were able to extract the colours from these and into the fabric.

The workshop was led by York based artist Jade Blood.
