Crescent Arts presents dear plants, a collaborative exhibition between staff and students at Crescent Arts, Blueberry Academy and artist and gardener Meg Woodward-Hay.

Exhibition Description: Dear Plants is the opening line of a poem written by Seb to encourage the plants in our Woodend Garden to grow. It is said that plants respond and grow more substantially  when they hear sound, and this small notion of sensory care written and performed by Seb embodies our collaborative work with the Woodend garden; listening, responding, and caring for the various species we coexist with in the space.

Over the last six months, staff and students at Crescent Arts and Blueberry Academy Scarborough, have been working with the raised beds at Woodend, planting, observing, and creating curious artistic responses in the process. These have ranged from sound recordings, natural dying, filmmaking with plants and painting. This exhibition represents an opportunity to share the things we have learnt, and also a chance for us to collect your own plant knowledge and relationships in the process.

We were not looking to create a perfect garden, but more something that can offer a mindful space, encouraging and accepting weeds and a more messy and entangled way of gardening and interacting with greenspace.

Dear Plants… is then not a statement, but a sentence, one that needs adding to, but not ending, it is a call to look, listen and learn in order to create a more positive climate future and relationship with ourselves, plant and animal life.

The project was made by the following; Liam, Chelsea, Amelia, Brad, Seb, David, Mike, Catherine, Martha, Joel, Meg, Laurence, Hannah and the various woodend plant species.
