NEW EXHIBITION: LANDSlide
LANDSlide brings together three artists, Rio Darwin, Pheobe Riley-Law, and Molly Newham, set against the backdrop of Dalby Forest.
Where: Dalby Forest, Courtyard Exhibition Space.
When: 14th November – 31st January 2027
LANDSlide brings together three artists, Rio Darwin, Phoebe Riley-Law, and Molly Newham, set against the backdrop of Dalby Forest. Each artist focuses on a distinct section of the landscape between land and sea, coming together to explore the process of coastal erosion as a connected whole.
While this exhibition celebrates their individual work, it also stands as a response to the urgent environmental pressures facing the eroding Holderness coastline. Through a shared psychogeographical walk, the artists map this shifting landscape through their emboided practice and previous works, highlighting the delicate relationship between the coast’s natural agency and our own human presence.
About the artists
Scarborough-based landscape artist Molly Newham creates abstract paintings, drawings, and sculptures informed by her physical encounters with the environment through running and walking. Her practice uses intuitive mark-making, gestural forms, and layered tactile materials to reflect on human connection to place, physical movement, and the impermanence of natural landscapes.
Rio Darwin is a North-West based visual artist who pushes the boundaries of clay as a sculptural medium. Rooted in the shifting dynamics of coastal landscapes, her practice uses clay as both a physical and conceptual material to explore themes of vulnerability, resilience, and how human habitation responds to changing environmental conditions.
Pheobe Riley-Law is an installation artist working across sound, performance, sculpture, photography, and moving image. Her work explores the relationships between bodies, borders, and devices, using graphic scores, sonic mapping, and self-built motorised machines as active collaborators to highlight the agency of non-human actors and inanimate objects.
This exhibition is delivered by Crescent Arts in partnership with Forestry England, made possible through funding from Arts Council England.
