COMMUNITY ZINE CALL OUT…

Crescent Arts are looking for local creatives to submit their work and ideas for an upcoming community arts zine...

COMMUNITY CALL OUT

Crescent Arts are excited to be launching a new regular creative zine for the area, it will showcase local creative talents and ideas, the zine will be published quarterly both online and in physical print.

We want to showcase and promote your work and grassroots initiatives with a focus on critical conversation and ideas; whether it be art, photography, essays, creative writing, or whatever medium your work fits into, we can do our best to feature it! We are particularly keen to hear from under-represented groups and young people on the Yorkshire Coast. Do you have any pictures, memories or stories you want to share?

Who can submit?

Anyone is open to submit if you live in the area or have a connection or memory to it. Any age can submit!

What are we looking for?

We are open to your submissions, the more creative the better! Submissions can range from but are not limited to: Visual arts, poetry, photography, collage, recipes, photographs, creative writing or critical essays, creative/exhibition/artist reviews, advertisements for grassroots creative events/productions. If you are unsure on where your work may sit within this, send us an email!

Why are we doing this?

There is currently no printed creative publication in the borough which collates ideas, creativity and culture so we wanted to support this to happen.

How will they be distributed?

Copies will be available in various cafes and spaces in town, we are going to finish the closing event for the current exhibition Hothouse, now on at Woodend Gallery, with the official launch for the zine, date to be announced soon, sign up to our newsletter to keep in the loop! https://www.crescentarts.co.uk  All those who contribute will also get a copy.

THEME

Each issue will have a loose theme in conjunction to the current exhibition. And as the work in Hothouse was made alongside the space, rather than made externally then brought in- we’ve decided the first issues theme will be ‘Making Space’ ie, how we react, co-exist and adjust to the spaces we inhabit and home ourselves in every day. Are those spaces we respond to inward or outward, in our homes or out in nature? How do we produce art in the spaces that we’re in? Does this effect the work we make?
