A very queer Scarborough…

A weekend roundup of all the events which happened over Woodend Gallery from the 25th to the 26th of June.

The aim of the Queer Infoshop was to offer a pop-up, mutli activity drop-in safe space for Scarborian queer individuals, young and old. We began the weekend with quiet hours for those who wanted to meet us before the workshops, our visitors were able to sit and relax in the squishy red chairs across from the workshop table.

The first workshop of the weekend began with an amazing cross-stitch workshop with textile artist Hayley Mills-Styles, a back-to-basics session in beginners cross-stitch. With some complimentary brownies from Lovebrew cafe!

In the evening brought us our textile banner and sign-making workshop with Joel Hague, where we explored type, words and visual prompts we associate with the queer Scarborian experience and how we can project these both metaphorically, and physically using signage, painting, experimenting with an overhead projector, type, textiles, cardboard and paper.

The Sunday brought us another quiet hour to break in the day, followed by a badge and zine-making workshop with Scarborough Zine Library.
