WORKSHOP: Textile Portraits Workshop

Get ya stitch on in this textile portraits class. You will learn how to transfer an image onto fabric to and transform this line drawing into fabric and stitch.

Join Scarborough based textile artist Hayley Mills-Styles for this two-hour textile portraits class. You will learn how to transfer an image onto fabric to and transform this line drawing into fabric and stitch. Hayley will show you how to use fabric applique to add colour and texture and some easy embroidery stitches like back stitch and French knots to create the stitched outline.

Materials: All materials and equipment will be provided.

Who is it For: The class is suitable for everyone with an interest in embroidery people who have no embroidery experience or haven’t embroidered for a while and want to brush up on their skills. We have a concession rate, and also a number of free tickets avalible for those who would otherwise be unable to attend please contact curator@crescentarts.co.uk

Covid Safety: We will be in a large room, limiting numbers and following social distancing, with hand sanitiser available. Although masks are not mandatory, we advise participants to wear them when indoors. Please do not attend if you have symptoms of coronavirus or you have been in contact with someone with coronavirus. Artist Bio: Hayley Mills-Styles is a textile artist and tutor based in Scarborough with a passion for embroidery. She has been stitching since childhood and loves to pass on these traditional skills with a contemporary twist. Alongside her teaching, Hayley creates artwork for public and private commissions and helps people to find their creative voice in community projects. Hayley has a degree in Textile Crafts from the University of Huddersfield and a Masters in Textiles from Manchester School of Art. You can take a look at her website and Instagram to find out more.
