A look into our open garden day 2.0//Growth Project
The summer continues to gift us with plenty of sun!
The raised beds sit behind Woodend Creative workspace and gallery. We started working with community groups a few years ago which have resulted in exhibitions such as ‘dear plants…’ and then a year later ‘Grounded’. This year we want to continue our conversations in the garden with the wider public.
We made sure to bring plenty of drinks and snacks as we knew it would be busy on a Saturday during the school holidays!

We were gifted some lovely pots by The Space to Be Tuesday group and residents from Scarborough Hall Care Home. They were out for visitors with ‘pay what you can’ alongside plants from some of our volunteers allotments.
We had more pots out on our crafting tables with acrylic paint pens so that the public could make their own pots whilst relaxing in the green space.
There were also lots of seed heads available for people to take for crafts…along with the seeds too of course.

While some people browsed the stalls showcasing local artists work, and other listened to more music by Sam Mckie, others helped weed the beds. Our plants are showing a lot of promise, with plenty of green shoots coming up!
Some of the plants have finished flowering which means we can prune plants like lavender and make our homes smell amazing.
We look forward to September where we will get to harvest some tasty food and plant new seeds that will survive over winter.
